Virgil H. Tharp, age 72, of Hillsboro, Ohio, passed away on October 8, 2025. Born on May 13, 1953, in Hillsboro, he was the son of the late Oscar H. and Blanche R. (Arledge) Tharp. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Tharp and his sister, Peggy Williamson.
Virgil proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School, where he was a member of the wrestling team and held the record for shot put and was a weight lifter. He enjoyed the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cincinnati Reds.
Virgil was baptized along with his brother, Gary on February 4, 1990, at the Hillsboro Church of Christ.
He is survived by his loving sisters: Marilyn (Dale) Willey, Jackie (Wayne) Campton, Rebecca (Robert) Creamer, and Brenda Parker. In addition, he leaves behind a host of cherished nieces and nephews, including Kandice (Nate) Morris, Stephanie (Timothy) Carpenter, Eddie Troxall, Jacob Music, Landen Music, Masen Music, Becky Parker, John (Tracy) Parker, Melissa Campton, John Williamson Jr., Carla Williamson, Nicole Hughes, and Merle "Beebo" Willey; several great nieces, great nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, at the Thompson Funeral Home with burial following at the Hillsboro Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites with be conducted by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard.
