He was born on April 24, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Helen (Lindsey) Coulthard.

Sam honorably served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, obtaining the rank of First Sergeant, contributing his skills and courage during the Vietnam War. His commitment to duty extended beyond his military service as he later became a bus driver for RTA in Dayton, where his ornery humor and sass raised the spirits of passengers daily commute. Sam was a member of the the AMVets Post 61.

A devoted father and grandfather, he is survived by his daughter, Heather Clark, and son, Samuel Clark Jr.; grandchildren, Katarina Clark, Brianna (Blake) Moore and Dylan Clark. He also leaves behind a cherished sister, Joyce Staples and nieces Karen (James) Johnson, Holly (Travis) Howard, Adam Staples, and several great nieces and nephews. Sam's legacy of love is woven into the hearts of those who knew him, as he took great pride in sharing life's simple joys-whether it was barbecuing on warm summer days, enjoying boating on the water, or fishing in the lake.
