Richard "Dick" Eick- Spilker, Sr., a devoted family man, respected community member, and hardworking truck driver, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024 surrounded by family, at Highland District Hospital at the age of 82. Born on January 19, 1941, Dick lived a life filled with dedication, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility. He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Spilker of 50 + years, parents, John and Arnette (Binne) Spilker, Fred and Helen Eick, longtime family friend, Darlene Ford, brothers, Freddie, Donald, Jack and Ray Eick and sisters, Carol Rensing and Janice Castle.
Dick was a pillar in his community. His dedication to serving others extended beyond his professional life. For over 17 years, Richard selflessly devoted his time and leadership skills to the Methodist church, where he served as a youth leader. He positively impacted the lives of numerous young people, instilling in them values of kindness, empathy, and faith.
Dick's kindness and community spirit were also evident in his involvement with the 4-H organization for 17 years. As a 4-H Leader, he inspired and mentored countless young individuals, encouraging their personal growth and empowering them to reach their full potential.
One of Dick's most notable contributions was the creation of the "Our Daily Bread" initiative. Recognizing the importance of providing nourishment to those in need, he spearheaded a program that delivered daily meals to individuals experiencing food insecurity. His compassion and commitment to eradicating hunger in his community touched the lives of many and left an indelible mark on our hearts.
Dick will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Kethler of Sardinia, children, Richard (Bonnie) Spilker of North Carolina, daughters, Catherine (Dan) Shupe of Milford, Jackie (Chris) Hopkins of Hillsboro and Leanna (Matt) Mullenix of Hillsboro, grandchildren: Trisha (Bobby) Banholzer, Charles Sauer, Tiffany (R.J.) Blankenship, Eric (Becca Hughes) Mullenix, Brittney Spilker, Zacharyah Shupe, Kristy (Tyler) Rhodes, great grandchild: Margaret, Bristol Ann, Jack, Randee, and Gracelyn, brothers, Mel (Linda) Eick of Rhode Island and Pat (Setsuko) Eick of Cincinnati, sister, Judith (Michael) Rives of Cincinnati, special friends and family members, Jeremy Day, Nathan Cooper, Willow, Harlow, Diamond, and the Ford Family, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends all of whom were deeply touched by his unwavering love, support, and guidance. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and a genuine concern for the well-being of others.
Dick will be greatly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire goodness and generosity in our lives.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday January 8, 2024 at the Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may visit from 11:00 AM until time of services on Monday at the Thompson Funeral Home.
