Phillip Karnes

It is with a great sadness that we announce the passing of Phillip G. Karnes. He departed this world on December 1, 2025, at the age of 83. Known for his vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to his family, Phillip leaves behind a legacy filled with love and laughter.

Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Esther (Grate) Karnes, wife, Elfriede Karnes and son, Stefan Karnes.

Phillip was born on November 18, 1942, in Greenfield, Ohio. He proudly served in the United States Army, demonstrating the same commitment and care to his country as he did to his family and friends. After his honorable service, he pursued a successful career in banking, retiring in 2012 from US Bank.

A devoted father, Phillip is survived by his son, Jason (Cindy) Karnes, two loving daughters, Beate Biggers and Pennie (Jeff) Phillips, grandchildren, Brandi (Jamey Johnson) Karnes, Haley Karnes, Christopher Karnes, Breanna Karnes, Madison Karnes, Nathan (Chelsea) Biggers, Jennifer (William) Waddell, Richard Phillips and Anthony Phillips, great grandchildren, Anna Fleming, Ethan Fleming, Ty Johnson, Benjamin Waddell and Kaiden Waddell, brother, Tom Karnes, sister, Janis (Dale) Edwards, daughter-in-law, Lisa Karnes and a host of friends.

He relished every moment spent with his grandchildren, cheering them on at sporting events and sharing in their joys.

Beyond his family, Phillip was an avid bowler who enjoyed the thrill of the game. He also loved golfing, cultivating his garden, and nurturing the beauty around him. Phillip's passion for life was evident in everything he did, and his laughter could brighten the darkest of days.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM on Thursday December 4, 2025 at the Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Hillsboro Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 11:00 AM until time of services on Thursday at the Thompson Funeral Home.

In this time of remembrance, let us honor Phillip G. Karnes-an extraordinary man who lived fully, loved deeply, and celebrated life every day. His spirit will continue to inspire us, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
