Maurice D. Kidwell

Jan 17, 1925 — Oct 20, 2026

Maurice Delbert "Del" Kidwell (January 17, 1925 - October 20, 2026) passed away peacefully at Our Home Assisted Living in New Albany, Ohio at age 101. He was born in Petersville, Kentucky to Ashel Kidwell and Rosa Stamm, one of 11 siblings including a twin brother Marcus E. Kidwell. Del enlisted in the US Navy at age 18 during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.

After returning home he secured his Merchant Marine Credential and sailed the world for sixteen years while working for Standard Oil. Del, and his wife Ruby, then bought a farm in Hillsboro, Ohio and he was still baling hay at the age of 99! He enjoyed driving his Kubota up and down Mad River Road to take raspberries, tomatoes and cucumbers to his neighbors. Del was an active longtime member of the Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church and shared his Christian faith freely with family, friends and caregivers.

In 1952 he married the love of his life, Ruby Gladys (Smith) Kidwell. The two shared 62 wonderful years before her death in 2014. Del is survived by two sons, Gregory A. Kidwell (Kathleen), Kendel G. Kidwell (benji), and three cherished granddaughters, Madison Kidwell (Van Sarki), Reilly Kidwell, and Mallory Kidwell as well as nephew John W. Kidwell (Sharon) and many other nephews, nieces and dear friends. Del was preceded in death by his parents, all siblings, and wife Ruby.

A small private memorial service was held on October 23rd at the New Market Baptist cemetery where he was laid to rest with military honors. The service was presided over by Reverand Dan Lamb, a spiritual mentor and friend. A celebration of his life is planned for a later date.
