Mary Gedney

March 7, 1970 — December 4, 2025

Mary Kathleen Gedney

From the time she became a Christian, her family remembers her looking forward to the day she would be with Jesus. Her wish has now been granted, and her journey is complete. She joined Him in the Kingdom of Heaven on December 4th, in the year of our Lord 2025.

Kathy is survived by Annaleigh, Chase, Montanna, Ellianna Kathleen Gedney, her parents Jerry and Mary Patton, her brother John Patton, and nephew Taggart Patton.

Kathy was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 7, 1970. She attended Chapel Hill Christian School, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, and Syracuse University where she met the father of her 4 children, Chris Gedney, who preceded her in death.

Kathy started her career early by playing on multiple Junior Olympic volleyball teams. She received a scholarship to play volleyball at Syracuse University and continued her career for a short stint on the Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. Kathy also led the Desert Vista men's volleyball team to a 2002 National Runner Up of an AAU Championship, while earning the distinguished award of Coach of the Year. Kathy decided to share her love for the Lord and volleyball by creating and cofounding Club SyrV a prominent volleyball club in Syracuse, New York.

Kathy had great love for animals, anything from goats to horses, dogs to bunnies - there were countless animals that prospered under her care.

There was never a doubt that Kathy was an enthusiastic lover of sunshine. The endless Arizona heat and Florida sun were some of her favorites, but her love for travel knew no bounds. Her road trips were epic and brought her to many places across the country. A few noteworthy destinations include Tennessee for Graceland and a friend's wedding, Glacier National Park to show Elli a new adventure, Oklahoma to visit Chase in the Army, and Austin, Texas to visit Annaleigh and Montanna. She didn't let the grass grow under her feet for long.
