It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John R. "Jake" Skinner, Sr., a cherished husband, father, and friend, who left this world on July 8, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Adams County, on November 11, 1941. John lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love. He is preceded by his parents, Charles and Beulah (Brodt) Skinner, son, Charles "Chuck" Skinner and sisters, Alph Poole and Patricia Skinner.
Jake was known for his remarkable character and unwavering commitment to his family and community. After earning his high school diploma, he devoted many years of his life to working as an aviation technician, a profession that underscored his meticulous nature and passion for all things mechanical. His expertise and work ethic left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.
A proud member of the Army National Guard, John exemplified the values of service and sacrifice, serving his country with honor. His faith was a cornerstone of his life as he served as a Deacon at the Church of Christ in New Vienna. Jake's spiritual leadership and kind spirit helped foster a sense of community and belonging for many.
As a member of the F&AM (Free and Accepted Masons) #236 in Winchester, Jake contributed to the Fraternity with devotion and integrity, exemplifying the principles of brotherhood and charity that lie at the heart of Masonic tradition.
Jake was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his devoted wife, Nancy Skinner, who stood by him through thick and thin. Together, they embraced life's journey, creating a tapestry of memories filled with laughter, faith, and love. He also leaves behind his children, J.R. Skinner, Kyle Skinner, Phillip Vance, Tonya Jean Countryman, Taylor Skinner, Angie Holton, Tracy Vance and Andrea Vance, several grandchildren and great grandchildren and brothers, Stanley "Peanut" Skinner and Gary Skinner.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
