James L. "Jim" Gorman, 76 years of Hillsboro, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024.
Born on September 16, 1947, in Hillsboro, OH, Jim was the son of the late William Edward and Margaret C. (Overman) Gorman. Beside his parents, Jim was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Ann Peterson, Malinda Jane O'Cull and Sharon Kay Lamb.
He was a beloved husband of 55 years to Linda L. (Armstrong) Gorman, who were united in marriage on January 28, 1969. A devoted father to Debra (Tony) Fryman, a proud grandfather to Emily (Alex) Foster, Callie (Drew) Stout, and Jordan Fryman, a caring brother to Donna Sue Gorman, brother-in-law to JoAnn Sexton and has several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Jim spent his early years attending Mt. Washington Church of Christ and went on to graduate from Hillsboro High School in 1965. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he received a Purple Heart for his bravery. After returning home, Jim dedicated 32 years of his life to the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. His impeccable record earned him a spot in the 1 million mile club without a single accident.
Following his retirement in 2010, Jim drove for the Highland County Veterans Service, showcasing his commitment to serving others. He was recognized for his selfless nature with the People's Bank Hometown Heroes Award for volunteering over 1500 hours. Jim's passion for farming led him to become a lifelong farmer and a member of various clubs celebrating his love for agriculture, such as the Southwestern Ohio Farm Toy Collector Club and the Highland County Antique Machinery Club.
A skilled craftsman, Jim's talent for building 1/16 scale farm tractors and implements from scratch garnered him national recognition, winning the National Farm Toy Show in Dyersville, Iowa, in 2004. His accomplishments were highlighted in numerous farm toy magazines, showcasing his expertise in the field.
A public viewing will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Thompson Funeral with Charlie Gorman officiating.
Burial will follow at the Prospect Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.
