In Loving Memory of Dwain K. Gorby
Dwain K. Gorby, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on January 5, 2024, at his farm near Sinking Spring. Born on August 5, 1931, in Burnt House, West Virginia, the son of the late Isaac and Marie (Keith) Gorby. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Burl. Dwain lived a fulfilling life dedicated to his family and his passion for automobiles and farming
Dwain was a man of remarkable skill and dedication, having obtained a high school diploma and honing his expertise as an automotive transmission specialist. He proudly owned and operated Gorby Transmission in Dayton for an impressive 50 years, becoming a trusted name in the industry. Dwain's commitment to excellence and his love for cars earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and customers alike.
After retiring in 1996, Dwain embarked on a new adventure, channeling his passion for farming. He purchased a farm, devoting his time to tilling the soil and nurturing the land. Dwain's work ethic remained unmatched, even in his moments of leisure.
Aside from his professional achievements, Dwain served in the Army, patriotic and dedicated to his country. He carried his sense of duty with pride, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Outside of work and service, Dwain had an unwavering love for car racing. Whether it was Formula 1, drag racing, or NASCAR, he found joy in the speed, adrenaline, and camaraderie of the sport.
Dwain will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Carol (Lewis) Gorby, his devoted sons, Dwain Gorby Jr. of New Carlisle, OH., Ron Gorby of St Mary's, OH.; step daughter, Shelly Eubanks of Dublin, OH.; step sons, Jeff Laymon of Batesville, IN, Tim Laymon of Centerville, OH.; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and his brother Bruce Gorby. He also leaves behind a rich tapestry of cherished memories for his family, friends, and those fortunate enough to have known him.
In honoring Dwain, a celebration of his life will be held at a date announced later.
