Dr. David Ayres

June 7, 1928 — August 24, 2025

Dr. David S. "Doc" Ayres, a beloved family physician, devoted community member, and cherished father, passed away unexpectedly on August 24, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on June 7, 1928, in Portland, Indiana, he lived a life rich with purpose and service, ultimately making his home in Hillsboro, Ohio. Doc is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Adda (Markwell) Ayres, wife, Kathleen "Kay" Ayres and siblings, Elsie Ayres, Cary Clifton, Donald Ayres and Rosemary Ayres Hollis.

Doc earned his Doctorate and dedicated his life to the health and well-being of his patients, touching countless lives in the community. His commitment to service extended beyond the office, as he was an active member of the Danville Church of Christ, where his faith guided him throughout his life. He was a visible figure in the community, serving in various roles that included being a member of the Hillsboro Lions Club, the Liberty Lions Club, the Rotary Club, and the Century Club. His passion for helping others also led him to serve as the Highland County Coroner.

In addition to his professional and civic duties, Doc was a compassionate 4-H advisor, instilling the values of hard work and community involvement in the youth of Highland County. His contributions to local history were significant, as a board member of the Highland Historical Society, and his entrepreneurial spirit shone through in his ownership of a beloved Soda Shop.

An avid gardener, farmer, and traveler, Doc found joy in nurturing plants and exploring new places, but his greatest joy came from his family and pets.

He is survived by his son, Kent (Tammi) Ayres, his daughter, Tracy Ayres, and grandchildren, Kathryn Cavendish, Tyler (Emily) Ayres, Tanner Ayres and Tucker Ayres, who will carry his legacy forward.

Doc also served honorably in the United States Navy, where he laid the foundation for a life of service that would continue long after his military career ended.

A Celebration of Life will be at 4:00 PM on Saturday August 30, 2025 at the Danville Church of Christ.

Friends may call from 1:00 PM until time of services on Saturday at the church.
