Ellen Isabelle (Mentz) Williams; nee Snodgrass was born up at the neck of the holler at the mouth of the Little Sandy River in Kanawha Co. West Virginia on July 29, 1915. Five years before women were given the rights to vote, plowed with a team of mules, loved her guns and was a force of nature.

Her mother became sick with tuberculosis when she was 11 or 12 and she had to take care of her brother and sisters under her. She also did the cooking and helped her father out in the fields.

She met and married my father, William Mentz, on Thanksgiving Day in 1936 and they had 5 children during their 55 years of marriage. She married Keith Williams, of Amelia, in 1996. He had been Principal of Amelia High School and a Professor of English at Miami State University.

Remembering my dear friend whom I am missing beyond words. I am blessed to have had you in my life for the past 7 years. Your love of our Lord was uplifting to say the least. Your heart was filled with a joy for life and mankind.
Not long after me met I was visiting Ellen and one day out of the blue she called me Lucille. Although I was at a loss for words (which doesn't happen often) I let it go. I would often remember that moment and wonder why she had called me Lucille but never brought it up in conversation with her. I had often spoke of my growing up in Minnesota, parents, siblings and life in general. Several more times over the years she would call me Lucille so one day I asked her why and she said she didn't know and said I guess just an old memory. I then told her about the first time she had called me Lucille and how dumbstruck I was and the reason why because my Mom's name is Lucille. My Mom passed away in 1989 and in many ways Ellen reminded me of her. A heart so filled with love for everyone she met, always ready to take on whatever was put upon her, praising God for all she had and willing to give up anything for anyone who needed it more than she. Heaven is a happier place with you there and I know you've already met Lucille. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Lucille, you were such a good friend to Grandma ;) Just kidding, but you were right, it was an old memory. Love you Marjorie! Grandma was soo happy knowing you would come visit each week! She truly loved you! Thank you for being such a good soul! She's an angel now, with God, and at peace and resting! xoxo God bless you! I'll miss seeing you too! You always have a place to visit in SF/California though ;) Love, Lisa . xo
