The Bradford name has been associated with the funeral business in Winchester for well over 100 years. James H. Bradford, a veteran of the Civil War, founded a furniture and undertaking business some time after his return to his hometown.

The furniture and undertaking business was conducted in a building south of the present funeral home, at the corner of Washington and Main Streets.

James H. Bradford was the father of two sons, Frank and Charles. Charles followed his father's profession and at his father's death in 1908, assumed ownership of the Bradford Funeral Home. Charlie, as the son was popularly known, was the father of two daughters, Clara and Elizabeth. Elizabeth, better known as Betty, was married to Everett Lloyd, and both she and Everett were employed by her father. Charlie Bradford died in 1954. Betty and Everett continued to operate the funeral home under the Bradford name. Everett died in 1971, and Betty in 1972.

At Betty's death, Don Edgington, of Mowrystown, purchased the funeral home from her estate and continued to operate it under the Bradford name. Mr. Edgington had been associated with the Lloyds for several years before their deaths.

In 1981, Mr. Edgington sold the funeral home to Bill and Gayle Sullivan. The Sullivan name was added at that time, due to a change in state law which made it mandatory.

Steve Thompson and Bob Wallace purchased the business from the Sullivan's in July of 1997 upon their retirement.
